An advent piece on John the Baptist that I wrote for Religious Socialism, fusing Biblical theology with socialist praxis. The piece seeks to wield John’s gritty imagery to jolt readers from complacency to concrete acts of justice — sharing the spare coat, living the world to come. It showcases my capacity to express sharp politico-theological analysis into vivid, galvanizing prose.
This piece is part of a series I started on Patheos called Love Letters to the Church. It takes the form of a letter to those who have been hurt by the church, seeking to expose the "bad journalists” of the Good News, insisting that Jesus remains radically accessible to all. The piece weaves pastoral empathy with prophetic bite, using vivid metaphors to revive hope for Christian spirituality for those to whom it feels no longer available.
Another piece in the Love Letters to the Church series, this one focuses on dynamics of shame in Christianity. It seeks to substitute the self-loathing that is far too often inculcated in Christian discipleship with practice of lament and repentance. Using concise, accessible prose, the piece blends pastoral warmth, sharp exegesis, and cultural critique, guiding readers from abstract doctrine to practical emotional liberation.
